WINCH

Time for a Winch and after some research from another member in our club we decided the Superwinch EP1 9,000lbs was best suited for our needs.

Now the fun really beginnings, we have a nice strong winch bumper to fit the winch into but its going to be tight!

Step1 Marking up

Mark out the holes that need to be cut out, these include, the front letterbox for the roller & the fixing holes. This was a real pain & much harder then you would think, we had to lift the winch in & out of a very tight space a number of times to get the holes marked up correctly. But after about 2 hours we were there.

Step 2 Cutting

Now the holes were all marked we set off drilling around the letterbox with a 3mm drill bit to give the hacksaw & grinder something to work on as the bumpers are made of thick steal. We did the same with the fixing holes started with a small drill bit & slowly worked our way up to a 12mm.

Step 4 Electrics

Not my favourite bit but hey it needed doing & turned out to be fairly simple, the hardest part was fitting the rather thick cable thought the bulk head for the isolator switch, we fitted this inside on a home made panel where the stereo was.

Step 5 Fitting

Day 2 started with as fitting the roller in place, which we nearly forgot then finally being able to fit the winch in place & bolting it down. Thankfully the nuts hold in groves on the base of the winch & bolt in from underneath, otherwise we would have been in big trouble gaining access.

Step 6 Fitting the Wire rope

Being careful not to tear our hand to shreds we laid the cable out in front of the vehicle, past the cable through the roller then fixed it to the bolt on the winch. Then came the moment of truth for our electrics, plug in the control pressed the winch in button and ....... nothing happened we looked puzzled for a few moment then suddenly realised we hadn't turn on the isolator, try again & thankfully it started winching in, few.

Step 7 Admire

All finished time to sit back with a cup of tea & admire a good weekends work.

Even if I say so myself, it looks GREAT!
